Organizing the furniture is essential to create a comfortable, attractive bedroom.

A cluttered room with disorganized, haphazard furniture placement can be both uncomfortable and unsightly. While choosing the right furniture plays a large part in creating the bedroom you want, improper organization can make even the most attractive furniture seem out of place.

To properly organize the furniture in your bedroom, you need to know exactly what you are working with -- not just the individual pieces, themselves, but also their dimensions and overall fit within your bedroom.

After all, your bedroom is your haven at the end of a long day, so create a space that is comforting and inviting. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width, length and height of all four walls of your bedroom. Write the dimensions down on a piece of paper.

    • 2

Measure the width, length and height of all doorways, closets and windows. Measure and note the distance between/among them on the walls.

    • 3

Measure the width, length and height of each piece of furniture you will be placing around your room. Again, make note of the dimensions on the paper.

    • 4

Draw a diagram of the room on a piece of paper. Use a ruler to make straight lines. The diagram does not have to be to scale. Mark the locations of all the windows and doorways, as well as the electrical outlets.

    • 5

Draw representations of your furniture and the desired placement. Knowing the dimensions of your furniture and the walls will help you accurately place each piece. Mix and match the furniture until you arrive at a configuration you like.

    • 6

Place any electronic equipment (television, DVD player, stereo, etc.) within reach of electrical outlets. Use surge-protectors and extension cords where necessary. However, you want them hidden from view as much as possible, because exposed, tangled wires look messy and disorganized.

    • 7

Place the bed and any chairs or couches so that you will be able to see the television clearly.

    • 8

Set lights in locations where they will provide the most benefit. For example, you may have an overhead light, but if you like to sit in a chair or lie in bed and read, you will probably want a light nearby.

    • 9

Organize the furniture so that the room looks full, but not cluttered. You do not want an overabundance of empty space; on the other hand, you do not want everything jammed together.
