Automobile computer systems alert you to potential problems, allowing you to address them before you end up stranded.

The 1995 Dodge Intrepid is equipped with a computer system to ensure smooth, worry-free operation of your vehicle and instantly alert you to possible mechanical issues. The computer system makes it easy to diagnose potential problems with emissions and critical engine functions by issuing a fault code when a problem arises. While the computer will usually automatically acknowledge that a repair has been made, sometimes it is necessary to manually reset the computer to clear the memory. In doing so, you also erase all previously-issued fault codes.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the engine of your car, then open the hood and secure it with the hood prop.

    • 2

Locate the battery, which can be found at the front right side of the engine compartment.

    • 3

Identify the positive terminal on the battery. The positive terminal will be marked with a + symbol or the letters POS.

    • 4

Loosen the nut on the side of the lead (wire) attached to the positive terminal, using a crescent wrench. Do not remove the nut entirely.

    • 5

Twist the positive lead back and forth to loosen and remove it from the positive terminal.

    • 6

Wait at least 30 minutes for the computer to completely reset.

    • 7

Reattach the positive lead to the positive terminal by gently pressing the lead onto the terminal until it is firmly in place.

    • 8

Tighten the nut with the crescent wrench to secure the lead to the terminal.

    • 9

Close the hood and start your car. The car's computer system should now be reset.
