How to Check Your Windows Search Version

The Windows Search tool was first introduced on the "Start" menu with the Windows Vista operating system. This box allows you to quickly search your programs, files, folders and emails based on keywords you enter. As you start typing into the Search box, the computer will scan based on the keys you enter. A list is then generated with all search results that match your keywords. As of October 2010, the current version is Windows Search 4.0.

  • Open the "Start" menu. Select "Control Panel" from the menu.

  • Click the link for "Programs."

  • Click "Programs & Features."

  • Select "View Installed Updates" in the left navigation pane.

  • Type "Search" into the search box in the top right corner. The results show your Windows Search version.
