In recent years, computer security has become a top priority among users. Each year, thousands of new computer threats are detected. The majority of threats come from the Internet and other networked computer resources. A common trait among hackers and computer virus creators is to attack and analyze a user's browsing history. Internet history can be cleared or turned off altogether by changing the Internet options on a computer. Leaving no Internet history behind can protect you from a multitude of Internet-based threats.

Instructions

      Open "Internet Explorer."

      Click "Tools" located in the upper navigation bar. A drop-down menu will appear.

      Scroll down and click "Internet Options."

      Click "Delete" under the "Browsing History" window. Select the "History" box then click "Delete." You will be redirected back to the "Internet Options" window. Check the box labeled "Delete browsing history on exit."

      Click "Settings" located under the "Browsing History" window.

      Set the number of days to "0" in the "Days to keep pages in history" window. Click "OK."

Tips & Warnings

  • Some programs require Internet history to be enabled and may not run properly after it's been disabled.
