How to Insert Tabs in Word

In the word-processing program Microsoft Word, the default tab markers are set at every half inch. A tab marker works as a stopping point for the cursor when the tab key on the keyboard is pressed. The tab key is regularly used for indentations at the beginning of a paragraph, but it is also possible to customize the tab markers to fit your needs.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open Microsoft Word.

    • 2

Click "Format" at the top of the window.

    • 3

Select "Tabs" from the Format menu.

    • 4

Select the positioning of the tabs by changing the number in upper-right corner of the window that appears. Click "Set" after each new tab marker.

    • 5

Click "OK." The tabs you entered are now set on the open document.
