1
Choose a theme for the space that most people would consider as being "out there," like a moon-themed room or a cupcake-themed room.
-
2
Paint or paper your walls in a way that will attract attention. Use bright paint colors on one or all of the walls. Add a mural to one wall with a funky pattern based on modern art. Use wallpapers that contain nontraditional patterns and interesting shapes.
-
-
3
Paint a wooden floor a nontraditional color; opt for something like green, neon blue or red, rather than a wood stain.
-
4
Place an area rug on the floor that's in an unusual shape, such as an octagon or triangle, or has a distinctive texture, like extra-thick, fluffy threads.
-
5
Accessorize the room with items that show your funky tastes, such as a collection of bottle caps displayed on the wall, strangely shaped vases or whatever unique decorative items you enjoy.
-
6
Push the limits of what common design sense might tell you. Use clashing colors or patterns, varying textures and eclectic, mismatched furniture, like an antique dresser with a stainless steel bed frame.
