A fruit or produce broker purchases farm products for further processing or resale. The fruit broker has to have multitasking capabilities and the ability to lead and interface with people successfully.

      Obtain training from vocational schools or colleges pertaining to food production, administration and management, customer and personal service, sales and marketing, transportation of goods, and interpersonal communication.

      Volunteer your time and sign up for informal training with experienced fruit brokers while you are in school.

      Work in adjacent fields in the agricultural sciences in order to get a breadth of experience that can enable you to identify crop characteristics, resolve agricultural production problems, negotiate contracts with suppliers and apply advanced business math.

      Apply for positions with merchant wholesalers for nondurable goods after you have completed your training and have one to three years of relevant experience.
