How to Get Rid of the Bars on a Flat Screen TV
Many times movies or TV shows, when viewed on a new flat screen TV, will have black bars on either side of the picture. The TV does this to adjust to the different aspect ratios of the set itself and the original film as produced. Getting rid of the black bars is as easy as changing the settings on your TV screen. Refer to your television's manual and locate the section that shows you how to adjust the set's screen size. The process will vary depending on your television's manufacturer.

Use your television's remote control to navigate to the proper settings menu. Most televisions have a "stretch" feature, but every set's menu refers to this setting differently.
