How to Get Teaching Jobs With a 2-Year Degree thumbnail
Think outside of the traditional teaching paradigm.

Though a traditional job in a school may be out of reach for those without at least a bachelor's degree, some other types of teaching positions are available to those with a two-year associate degree. Life and work experience can go a long way in helping you find a teaching job. Whether you teach children or adults, online or in person, you will find students interested in learning the skills you have to teach.

Instructions

    • 1

Teach preschool if you have a two-year degree in early childhood development. This degree will enable you to be a lead teacher in a preschool classroom. Many community colleges offer child development degree programs.

    • 2

Work in your field of study for several years. Seek out a vocational or career college teaching job after gaining a significant amount of professional or life experience in the subject you want to teach.

    • 3

Work as a tutor or volunteer. For example, if you want to teach English as a second language, gain experience by volunteering to teach adults English at your local community or adult education center. Then look for teaching jobs that requires only that you be a native English speaker or that you have experience teaching ESL.

    • 4

Start your own business teaching classes online. Choose a subject you want to teach, design your course, and offer your lessons on websites such as Ed2Go, ForteMall and Buddy School. Students can sign up to take your classes through these sites. Be prepared to learn how to use online teaching technology, redesign your classes to meet the needs of online students and learn as much as you can about online teaching strategies.

Approach your local senior center, elderly care facilities, public and private schools, recreation center or public library to offer classes. For example, if you are bilingual, check with local preschools to see if you could offer classes a few times a week to children in a language other than English. Some companies that provide language classes to children may hire you as well. Check with your local community college or university to find out about teaching a skill you have to continuing or life-long education students.
