How to Measure Cushions to Make Slipcovers
If you are in the mood for a decor change but don't want to purchase new furniture, consider using slipcovers instead. Covering your sofa or chair with a slipcover offers several benefits. Slipcovers protect your furniture's upholstery by blocking stains and preventing wear and offer a quick and inexpensive way to add color, texture or patterns to furniture. Place one end of the measuring tape on the outer edge of one of the chair's arms.

Stretch the tape across the front of the sofa.

Position the other end at the edge of the opposite arm. This measures the width of the sofa.

Take note of the measurement, and write it down on your notepad.

Position the measuring tape at the back of the sofa.

Place the end of the tape at the highest point of the sofa.

Stretch the measuring tape down to the floor. This is the height measurement.

Take note of this measurement, and write it in your notebook.

Tips & Warnings
Enlist the help of a second person to hold the tape while you measure.
If you are sewing your own slipcovers, add 1.25 inches to each measurement to account for seams.
