How to Unlock Hero Mode in "Donkey Kong Country"

Initially released for the Super Nintendo in 1994, "Donkey Kong Country" was ported to the Game Boy Advance (GBA) in 2003. The gameplay is largely unchanged, but GBA players can unlock a special variation of the game called "Hero Mode." While playing in the challenging Hero Mode, players control Diddy Kong, who is sporting a yellow shirt instead of the usual red, and must play though the game without Donkey Kong or checkpoint barrels.

Instructions

    • 1

Boot up the game and select a new save file. Select "1 Player" from the options menu and name your save file to begin play.

    • 2

Play through each of the game's six worlds and numerous levels while keeping an eye out for the "K," "O," "N" and "G" letters scattered throughout each level. Completing levels, collecting these letters and finding secret rooms will add to your overall completion percentage.

    • 3

Progress through the game until your completion percentage reaches at least 90 percent, which can be checked by pressing the "Start" button. More than likely, you will beat the game and need to go back and replay levels to boost your completion percentage to 90.

    • 4

Access the game's main menu after you reach the requisite 90 percent completion percentage and select a new save slot.

    • 5

Scroll down to "1 Player Hero" and press the "A" button. Enter your initials to name the save file to begin play in Hero Mode.
