How to Troubleshoot an HDMI Cable Television
The HDMI cable is the cord that connects your cable television to the cable box or DVR provided by your cable service provider. The HDMI cord is necessary because it allows those who have HDTVs the ability to view high-definition content. Because the HDMI cord connects the video as well as the audio from your cable box to your TV, using an HDMI cord decreases the amount of cables that you would need to use. Double-check that the HDMI connection is tight in both the box and the TV. Moving one or either of these devices could cause the HDMI cable to slip out of place, thus eliminating the connection or causing the quality of the connection to decrease.

Do not force the HDMI cable into place. These cables can be inserted into the TV or cable box only one way. If it is difficult to insert the cable, you may be trying to insert it upside down.

Access the "Components" menu on your HDTV and make sure that the "HDMI" selection is chosen. The way you access the "Components" menu on TVs differs depending on the brand of TV, however, it often involves pushing the "Component" or "Input" button on your remote control and selecting "HD" from the list that appears.

Call your cable or satellite service provider to make sure that HD service is available in your area and that you are signed up to receive HD channels. Some service providers charge an additional amount for you to be able to access HD channels.
