The local police may be able to help you locate someone.

A number of services allow you to look up people by their Social Security number (SSN). These services often give you a person's current location and may provide a specific address, employment records, criminal history and personal information such as birthday and phone number. If you have a legal need to speak to someone, such as retrieving payments you are contractually obligated to, you may be able to enlist the help of law enforcement agents to find someone using their SSN.

Instructions

  1. Police and Private Investigators

    • 1

Contact your local police department and explain why you need to find someone. Typically, the police will not help you find someone unless you have a pressing reason, such as the need to collect child support payments.

    • 2

Contact a private investigator if you have a more personal reason for trying to find someone. Investigators often charge a hefty fee for locating individuals.

    • 3

Tell the police officer or private investigator helping you as much information as possible about this person, including his SSN.

    Online Services

    • 4

Navigate to the website of an online service that allows you to look people up using their SSN. As of October 2010, most services charge of free of $10 to $40.

    • 5

Enter the person's SSN. If you have the information available, enter her last name.

    • 6

Press "search." The site will give you the information you purchased. Typically the site will give you the full name, last known address and state of birth.
