How to Hang a Scarf Over an Arched Window

How to Hang a Scarf Over an Arched Window thumbnail
Covering an arched window with curtains can be a challenge.

An arched window is sometimes a challenge to cover with draperies because it is difficult to cover with a traditional curtain. One alternative to this is to use a scarf window curtain to hang across the top of the arched window. Many curtain and window treatment stores sell curtain rods designed for arched windows that are excellent companions to scarf curtains. Drape the curtains however you like to match your tastes and decorative style. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the arched curtain rod against the top of the window to determine the placement of the brackets. Decide if you want to place the curtain rod above the window, across the window or just below the top of the window. Mark the placement for the rod brackets with a pencil. Most arched rods have three brackets---two on the ends and one in the middle.

    • 2

Hold the brackets in place with one hand and screw the screws into the brackets with the power screwdriver.

    • 3

Place the arched curtain rod into the brackets.

    • 4

Take the scarf curtain out of the packaging. Decide if you want to hang the scarf in a draped pattern or more of a twisted pattern.

    • 5

Take one end of the scarf and loop it over the outside edge of the curtain rod. Loop it around one or two times to hold the scarf in place.

    • 6

Carry the scarf curtain to the middle of the curtain rod. Loop the curtain one time around the middle of the arched curtain rod. Bring the end of the scarf curtain to the other side of the curtain rod. Wrap the scarf one or two times to hold the end in place.

    • 7

Step back from the window and look at the curtain scarf. Decide if you want the ends of the scarf to hang evenly or if you want one side to remain longer than the other. Adjust the ends of the scarf as desired.

    • 8

Pull and drape the scarf curtain until it matches your chosen design. You can even take a rubber band and tie it around the ends of the curtain hung over the edges of the curtain rods to create a bunched effect that looks similar to a rosette style. This gives more formality to the scarf. Leave it flowing and free for an informal look.
