How to Create a Koozie

A koozie is a sleeve-like device that slides onto the bottom of a beverage container (a bottle or can). Koozies are usually made out of foam or fabric, and are used to keep your beverage cool and your hands warm and dry. You can make your own stylish beer koozie out of duct tape. These handmade koozies will fit a standard-sized can and can be made in any color of duct tape. If you're having a party, make several koozies with different patterns or colors, so your guests won't get their drinks mixed up.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a colorful duct tape to make a stylish koozie. Most department stores sell duct tape in many different colors and patterns.

    • 2

Cut off three strips of duct tape and place them on a table sticky side up and parallel to each other. Each strip should measure 10 inches long. Attach them together widthwise, to make one strip approximately 4 1/2 inches wide and 10 inches long. The strips will overlap about half an inch.

    • 3

Roll the strip of tape around a 12 oz. soda can, with the sticky side facing out. Make sure the bottom of the can is even with the bottom of the strip. Once it overlaps itself, keep it straight and avoid any bubbles or creases.

    • 4

Tear off two strips of duct tape, each 5 inches long. Attach one strip, across the bottom of the can, sticky side out, then attach the other strip across the bottom diagonally to the first strip. This will create the bottom of the koozie. Place the can, with the koozie still on it, upside down on a flat surface. This will make it easier to add the remaining duct tape.

    • 5

Tear off two strips of duct tape, each measuring 5 inches long, then attach them over the bottom strips, sticky side down. Each piece should be attached in opposite directions to completely cover the first two sticky strips.

    • 6

Cover the sides of the koozie with three strips of duct tape, each measuring 10 inches long, sticky side down to complete the koozie. Turn the koozie right side up, with the can still inside to make sure it will hold the can. To make the koozie thicker and more durable or to cover any sticky spots, add more duct tape with the sticky side down.
