How to Remove the Water From a Jet Ski Engine

Save

Your Jet Ski pulls water up from the lake to cool the engine while in use. This water must be removed before storing it for the winter. Freezing temperatures can cause the ice to freeze. Water expands in the frozen state, which can cause excessive pressure inside the engine and can cause the engine block to crack. Trapped water will also cause corrosion.

  • Load the Jet Ski onto its trailer or pull it out of the water.

  • Start the engine by pressing the start button on the handlebars.

  • Turn the handlebars from left to right quickly.

  • Rev the engine by pressing the throttle. Do not allow the engine to run for more than 30 seconds.

  • Allow the engine to cool for five minutes before repeating the process. Continue until no water drains from the rear jet.
