The seat of a scooter leads a double life, acting as a saddle for the rider and serving as the storage compartment's lid. Most basic maintenance routines can be performed by lifting the seat to enter the storage compartment, although some jobs may require that you remove the seat to gain greater access to the scooter's electrical and fuel systems. Removing a scooter seat requires only a few tools and can be completed in less than 10 minutes.
Things You'll Need
- Ignition key
- Socket wrench
- Flat-head screwdriver (optional)
Unlock the seat latch using the scooter's ignition key. Lift the seat against its hinge into a fully opened position.
Unscrew the nut from the hinge's pivot bolt under the front of the seat, using a socket wrench. Push the pivot bolt out of the seat hinge. On scooters that use a pin and circlip to mount the seat to the hinge, pry the circlip off the pivot pin, using a flat-head screwdriver, and push the pin out of the hinge.
Lift the seat off the hinge and away from the scooter.
