How to Put Small Jewelry Jump Rings on Easily

Jump rings are used to connect jewelry.

Jump rings are tiny metal findings which are used to connect pieces of jewelry. The size and strength of jump rings make them challenging to work with unless you have the proper tools. A small and inexpensive jump ring opener looks similar to a fashion ring but has a slit which secures a jump ring, making it easier to maneuver. Gather the required supplies and put small jewelry jump rings on easily.

Things You'll Need

• Jump rings
• Jump ring holder
• Needle nose pliers

Instructions

1. Put a jump ring holder on the index finger of your non-dominant hand.

2. Insert one jump ring into the slot on the jump ring holder.

3. Use a pair of needle nosed pliers to carefully pull one side of the jump ring forward to create a small opening.

4. Connect another jump ring or piece of jewelry onto the open jump ring.

5. Close the jump ring, carefully, in the same manner you opened it.

Tips & Warnings

• If you don't have a jump ring holder you can use another pair of flat pliers to hold the ring in place while you open it with the other pair of pliers.

• Don't force the jump ring open too far or it could break.
