Instructions
-

1
Place the Styrofoam board on a work surface. Use Styrofoam board of any thickness for this task. For a Styrofoam boat with a wider base, choose a thicker board.
-
2
Draw a boat shape on the Styrofoam board with a pen. Make sure the boat is as long as the dowel.
-
-
3
Cut the Styrofoam board with scissors along the boat shape.
-
4
Attach dowel cap to one end of the dowel. Insert the dowel end without the cap into the top center of the boat to serve as a mast. Push the dowel in as much as possible depending on the thickness of the board you are using without tearing open the other side.
-
5
Cut a triangular shape with all sides equal, from the construction paper. This will serve as your boat's sail. The size of the triangle should be such that it covers half of the dowel.
-
6
Apply glue on the back of the triangle along any line that joins a vertex (pointed end) to the midpoint of the opposite side.
-
7
Stick the triangle to the dowel just below the cap.
-
8
Put the boat the container of water. Switch on a table fan. Watch how your boat sails in the wind generated by the fan.

Tips & Warnings
Use a straw or a pointed pencil for the mast instead of the dowel.
Make a sail of plain white paper instead of construction paper. Draw shapes on the paper with colored pencils to decorate the sail.
Place another sail on the other side of the dowel mast.
Do not leave Styrofoam boats within easy reach of pets. If they eat or swallow Styrofoam, they would be unable to digest it.
