How to Remove Hard Water Deposits on the Bottom of a Tea Kettle

Remove hard water deposits inside your teakettle with household supplies.

Mineral deposits will collect inside a teakettle over time. When the water boils and sets in the teakettle, the minerals often collect on the bottom. Hard water deposits can make the water inside the teakettle have a bad taste. Instead of throwing the teakettle out, remove the hard water deposits with items that you have around your home. Cleaning your teakettle once a month will help to prevent hard water from building up inside the kettle.

Things You'll Need

• White vinegar
• 1/4 cup baking soda
• Towel

Instructions

1. Mix an equal amount of white vinegar with water in the teakettle.

2. Place the teakettle on the stovetop over high heat to bring it to a boil. Allow the water and vinegar solution to boil for 10 minutes.

3. Let the solution cool. Pour it out of the teakettle and fill it with 1/4 cup baking soda and cool water.

4. Shake the teakettle enough to swirl around the baking soda solution. Allow it to set for 10 to 15 minutes and then pour it out. This will remove the odor from the vinegar.

5. Rinse the teakettle with warm water. Dry the outside of the kettle with a towel.
