Instructions

    • 1

Add to the jug a solution of 1 part bleach or vinegar to 10 parts hot water.

    • 2

Hold your hand over the top of the carboy, and shake it vigorously.

    • 3

Push a bottle brush in and out through the top of the bottle, scrubbing the inside of the jug with the brush.

    • 4

      Pour out the liquid.

    • 5

If possible, sanitize the carboy in a dishwasher with dishwasher detergent. Skip this step if you do not have a dishwasher.

    • 6

Place a funnel into the lip of the carboy, and pour in boiling water. Fill the jug, let the water sit for about a minute, then discard the water. Using boiling water as a final rinse is important, as water with lower temperatures can lead to spoiled batches.

    • 7

Flip the bottle upside down, and allow it to dry on a dish rack.
