How to Use a Book of Christian Prayer

Prayer books are a useful way to compile many common prayers into one easy-to-use location. Christian prayer books can be single-purpose and contain prayers of similar subject matter, or can be large collections of prayers for all occasions. If you have a book of Christian prayer, using it as a tool for dealing with life's challenges is just a page turn away.

Instructions

1. Identify areas of your life that you feel would benefit from prayer. You can focus on yourself and your own struggles, or widen your prayers to friends and family members or those in need.

2. Make a decision in regard to whether this is a one-time prayer or the beginning of a new habit. While prayer is an activity largely guided by your own feelings, many worshipers feel it is best when performed at regular intervals (daily or weekly).

3. Look through the prayer book table of contents for a prayer you feel applies best to your current situation. Most prayer books have a wide variety of prayers to suit different needs.

4. Read the prayer to yourself or out loud according to the prayer schedule you decided on. A great time for daily prayers is just before heading to bed or right after waking up.
