How to Get Rid of Reveal Codes in Word Windows

Save

Reveal codes display the formatting used in a WordPerfect document, such as a line or paragraph break. Microsoft Word for Windows uses formatting marks instead of reveal codes to display formatting, such as where a paragraph starts and ends. By default, Word hides formatting marks in your document. When formatting marks are enabled, content within the document may be difficult to read. You can remove the codes quickly in Word.

Hide Codes in Document

  • Open a new or existing document to remove the formatting marks.

  • Select the "Home" tab.

  • Click the "Show/Hide" button in the "Paragraph" group to hide the codes. Clicking it again displays them.

Change Settings to Hide Codes Permanently

  • Select the Customize Quick Access Toolbar to hide codes in your document.

  • Click "More Commands" and select the "Display" tab in the "Word Options" window.

  • Go to the "Always show these formatting marks on the screen" section.

  • Deselect "Show all formatting marks" and click "OK."
