How to Fix "Resident Evil 3" Bugs

"Resident Evil 3" is part of a series of critical and market successes that have defined the horror/puzzle genre since its initial release. While in development, it was made for console systems rather than the PC and was later ported to the PC. While almost everything in the game works fine, there is often a problem between Windows and "Resident Evil 3" in handling sound hardware acceleration that causes the game to freeze up or crash.

Instructions

    • 1

Expand the Start menu in the bottom corner of the screen and type "dxdiag" into the "Search" link. This will open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

    • 2

Click on the "Sound" tab at the top of the window that appears. Depending on your computer, you may have multiple sound tabs; simply find the tab dealing with sound hardware acceleration.

    • 3

Lower the acceleration setting to "Basic" and attempt to run the game again. If it plays the game smoothly and successfully plays through cinematic scenes, the bug is fixed.

    • 4

Lower the acceleration setting to "None" if problems persist.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cut scenes may play at lower quality without hardware acceleration, but the game will not crash.
