Driving in cities with heavy air pollution shortens the life of the filter.

The 2009 Kia Spectra is equipped with a climate control air filter, also known as an air-conditioning filter or cabin air filter, that filters dust and other pollutants from entering the vehicle. The accumulation of dust and other material over time reduces air flow through the air-conditioning system. Kia recommends replacing this filter every 10,000 miles. If the Spectra is driven in severely air-polluted cities or on dusty roads for long periods of time, the filter should be inspected more frequently.
