Kenmore sewing machines have several functions, including a buttonholer that puts buttonholes on clothes and other items.   • Button
  • Clothing or other item
  • Power supply

      Position the darning plate with the three pins on the plate facing downward over the needle plate and fit the three pins into the needle plate holes.

      Set the stitch selector to the left and line up both holes of the button with the slot on the needle foot.

      Place the left hole of the button just below the point of the needle.

      Lower the needle foot and turn the stitch selector to "Zigzag" until the point of the needle is just above the right buttonhole.

      Sew approximately five stitches and lift up the needle. Set the stitch selector to the left and sew a few more stitches to lock the thread in place.

      Strengthen the buttonhole by cutting the thread with approximately eight inches left on the tail. Bring the needle thread through the hole on the button and wind it around the button shank. Bring the thread through the buttonhole to the bottom and knot the thread.
