If you have an excess of rhubarb, you can use it to make fresh rhubarb pie. However, unless you want to make a lot of rhubarb pies all at once, you will need to preserve the excess rhubarb pie filling to use at a later date. One solution is to freeze it in a deep freezer.

  • Freezer bag
  • Permanent marker
  • Deep freezer

      Cool the rhubarb pie filling completely. Hot or warm pie filling can cause the freezer bag to sweat, producing unwanted ice or freezer burn.

      Pour the pie filling into a thick plastic freezer bag.

      Press out all of the excess air from the bag with your hand. Seal the bag completely, making sure that there are no leaks or holes.

      Write the contents of the freezer bag onto the front of the bag with a permanent marker, then place the rhubarb pie filling into a deep freezer.

  • Use bags specifically designed for freezing food, not regular plastic bags.
