Whether looking for a child's new coat or a great deal on a designer handbag, eBay is a veritable treasure trove. In a down economy, it remains a solid choice for the frugal consumer. Once you find an item you like, you will need to determine the high bid in order to decide whether to place a bid.

Advanced search options allow users to find great items. Search the eBay website for listings of interest. Advanced search options allow you to find specific items quickly. Browsing through multiple categories allows you to search eBay at your own pace.

Select a listing you would like to purchase. The search results may be viewed in the list, gallery or snapshot views. Click on one of the titles or images to see the listing.

Find the gray box to the right of the product image. The high bid is in bold, labeled as "Current Bid" if anyone has placed a bid, or "Starting Bid" if no bids have been placed.
