How to Remove the Agitator on a Kenmore Stackable Washer & Dryer
Kenmore laundry centers consist of stackable washer with a dryer on top. Unlike the newer front-load models, laundry center stackable washers use an agitator like any other top-load washer. It is necessary to remove the agitator on a Kenmore stackable washer when repairing the transmission or tub. The agitator secures to the washer transmission with a single bolt that is hidden from view during normal operation. Does this Spark an idea?

Unplug the Kenmore washer power cord from the wall outlet. Lift the washer lid and lock it open under the dryer just as you would when loading the washer.

Pull the fabric softener dispenser off the top of the agitator. The fabric softener dispenser lifts out with your fingers. Locate the notch in between the top of the agitator and the service cap. Insert a flat-head screwdriver into the notch to pry the service cap off the agitator.

Remove the bolt on the inside center of the agitator that secures it to the transmission shaft with a socket wrench and extension adapter.

Grasp the bottom of the agitator with your fingers and pull it up out of the washer. It is necessary to angle the top of the agitator toward the front of the washer once you have it halfway out. This enables you to maneuver the agitator completely out of the washer.
