Duplicate music files on a Mac take up hard drive space and complicate music library organization. iTunes is the native music library application in the Mac OS X operating system. With iTunes, you can identify duplicate music files and remove them from your computer.

Instructions

      Open the "Applications" folder and double-click on the iTunes icon.

      Open the "File" menu and select "Display Duplicates."

      Click on the "Name" header to sort the duplicate files by their name.

      Click on one item in each pair of duplicates while holding down the "Command" key.

      Press the "Delete" key on your keyboard. Confirm you want to remove the selected duplicates from the library. Click the "Move to Trash" button to send the files to the Trash.

      Go to the Finder, open the "File" menu and select "Empty Trash." Confirm you want to empty the Trash to remove the duplicate files from the computer
