How to Remove Mold Smell From an Apartment Heating Vent

Removing mold smell from a apartment heating vent can be done with a few basic steps.

The presence of mold in in an apartment heating vent is not only unpleasant, but can also pose a health hazard. The smell of mold indicates that mold is forming side the heating vent. Mold should be removed promptly after it is discovered. The removal should be done with caution while wearing the proper protective gear. With the right techniques you can eliminate the mold smell from your apartment and start breathing fresh, clean air again.

Things You'll Need

• Bleach
• Dishwashing liquid
• Facial mask
• Brush
• Screwdriver

Instructions

1. Put on a face mask to avoid inhaling mold spores. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws from the heating vent cover and place it aside. Carefully place the screws together in a safe place.

2. Remove dust and other debris from inside the heating vent using a brush. Put 3 drops of dishwashing liquid and 4 tsp. of bleach into a 1 gallon of water.

3. Dip a rag into the bleach water, then remove it and squeeze out the excess water. Thoroughly wipe the surface area where the mold is located. Rinse the rag in the bleach water, then wipe the area a second time. Use clean, warm water to rinse the rag, then give a final wipe to remove any remaining traces of mold.

4. Soak the vent covers in a container with 2 drops of bleach and 1 gallon of warm water. Allow the grime and mold to soak away for 10 to 20 minutes. Rinse the vent covers with warm water and leave to air dry. Replace the vent covers and insert each screw securely.
