How to Download Voice Chat for Linux

Google's Voice and Video Chat plug-in supports Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. With the Voice Chat plug-in installed, you can make voice calls to other Google accounts from Gmail, iGoogle and Orkut and talk to people via your Web browser. You can even dial land-line and cellular telephones from your Gmail account inside your Web browser. Google provides plug-in software packages for the Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora and OpenSUSE Linux distributions.

Instructions

      Open Google's Voice and Video chat download webpage (see Resources).

      Click "Install Voice and Video Chat."

      Select the download package for the Linux distribution you're using by clicking "32-bit .deb (For Debian/Ubuntu)," "64-bit .deb (For Debian/Ubuntu)," "32-bit .rpm (For Fedora/OpenSUSE)" or "64-bit .rpm (For Fedora/OpenSUSE)."

      Click "Install Voice and Video Chat."

      Open the software package with the Linux distribution's package installer by clicking "OK" in the file download window.

      Click the "Install" button in the software package installation window that appears.

      Authenticate yourself by typing your password and pressing "Enter" when prompted.

      Restart any open Web browsers by closing all their windows and reopening them.
