How to Reinstall Scardsvr

The "Scardsvr" files are the files necessary to run the smart card services on a Windows 7, Vista or XP computer. Smart cards look like a credit card, but they are used in financial transactions. They are similar to a credit card, because they let you purchase merchandise, but they use an electronic strip to secure your information. You can run this service on a Windows computer, but if the files corrupt, you must uninstall and reinstall the drivers.

  • Click the Windows "Start" button. Type "cmd" into the search text box and press "Enter." This opens your Windows command line.

  • Type "sc delete scardsvr" into the command line. Press "Enter." This completely removes the drivers from the computer.

  • Type "sysocmgr.exe /i %windir%\inf\caller.inf" into the text box. Press "Enter." This reinstalls the service onto your computer from the preexisting Windows drivers in the "inf" directory.

  • Reboot your computer. When the computer boots up, the smart card drivers are available.
