How to Troubleshoot a NTFS.Sys Blue Screen Error

Windows XP SP2 encounters a problem in which the NTFS driver becomes corrupted by another operating system application that decides to write over the driver at some point in time. This happens quite rarely, meaning you might never encounter the problem again after fixing the situation. Your NTFS driver tells your operating system how to scan, read from and write to your hard drives. Because you cannot boot up your operating system at all without a proper version of the NTFS driver, you must use the recovery console included with your operating system's installation disc.

Instructions

    • 1

Start your computer up and put your Windows CD inside the drive before the computer starts loading the operating system.

    • 2

Press any key on your keyboard when you get the prompt to press a key.

    • 3

Press the "R" key on your keyboard when you get to the part where the screen mentions a recovery console.

    • 4

Type the number representing the Windows installation you would like to log in to and press "Enter" when you finish.

    • 5

Type the following command on the prompt: "copy d:\i386\ntfs.sys c:\windows\system32\drivers". Replace "d" with the letter of your CD drive and "c" with the letter of your system hard drive. Press "Enter" after writing this command and restart your computer.
