How to Re-Ink Stampin' Up Ink Pads

How to Re-Ink Stampin' Up Ink Pads thumbnail
Re-inking a stamp pad is a simple process.

Over a period of years and with extended and frequent use, a Stampin' Up stamp pad will eventually run out of ink. You can tell the ink pad is running low because it will be harder to produce full color stamps. The colors will appear faded, and it may take several stamp applications to produce a clear and bright color. Re-inking the stamp pad is a simple process that is cheaper than replacing the entire stamp pad and will extend the life of your stamp pads by several months or years.

Instructions

    • 1

Test the dye strength of the ink pads by stamping a test stamp onto a piece of paper. This will help you determine how dry the pad is.

    • 2

Trim any frayed edges on the stamp pad with scissors. Since the top of the ink pad is covered in fabric, the fibers of the fabric will eventually fray, which can spread color where you don't want it. Trim any fraying pieces away while the pad is dry to reduce the amount of dye that gets on your fingers or scissors.

    • 3

Check the color of the ink pad and the color of the refill to make sure the colors match exactly. If you accidentally place the wrong color refill onto the stamp, it will be unusable with Stampin' Up products.

    • 4

Apply the ink to the stamp. Squirt a quarter-sized amount onto the stamp pad. Wait three seconds. If the ink absorbs into the pad within three seconds, apply another quarter-sized amount of dye. Continue to add additional dye to the pad until it takes about five or six seconds for the ink to absorb into the pad. Take care not to apply too much ink to the pad or it will drip and be extremely messy.

    • 5

Use the dye roller to distribute the color evenly over the surface of the stamp pad. Roll the dye around for about 30 seconds to 1 minute to evenly cover the surface of the ink pad with the dye.

    • 6

Turn the ink pad upside down and store it overnight before using the pad again.

    • 7

Wash any ink from surfaces and fingers with a mild soap and wet paper towels. Rub the wet towels over the surface of the object until you have removed all traces of ink.
