How to Show Open Windows on the Task Bar

The Windows task bar is a system toolbar on Windows operating systems that appears by default on the bottom of the screen. The task bar contains a link to the "Start" menu, a notification area with the system clock and other commonly used icons and a blank area where links to currently open windows and programs appear. The task bar can be set to "auto-hide" which will mean open windows on the task bar will be hidden from view unless you point to the task bar. Disabling auto-hide will set the task bar to always be visible so that you can see open windows.

  • Click "Start," "Settings" and "Taskbar and Start Menu."

  • Uncheck "Auto-hide the taskbar." You may also wish to change the "Taskbar location on screen" selection to fit your preferences. By default the bar will appear at the bottom of the screen.

  • Click "Apply" and then "OK."

Tips & Warnings

  • Choosing "Lock the taskbar" in the task bar options window will prevent you from moving or altering the size of the task bar. Set this option if you like the current position and size of the task bar and wish to avoid making accidental changes to the task bar.
