How to Use a Proxy From a Different State

Save

Finding a website that offers free proxy services is not difficult. Dozens of these services are available on the Web and you can always locate the newest proxy servers with a quick Google search. To use a proxy from a different state, choose any proxy server and run its IP address through a lookup tool to confirm the exact location of the server. If it is in a different state than where your computer is located, configure your Web browser to use this proxy as you surf the Web anonymously.

Things You'll Need

  • Any Web browser
  • Internet access

Find a Proxy in a Different State

  • Navigate to a free proxy service using one of the links in the Resources section below. You can also conduct your own search for other proxy servers, if you wish, by doing a Google search on the query phrase “free proxy server.”

  • Review the list of IP addresses for free proxy servers available on a particular site. The listing will also identify the port number for each proxy IP address and usually lists the country where the proxy server is located.

  • Write down the IP address and port number of any proxy server listed as being in the United States.

  • Use one of the IP address lookup tools provided in the Resources section to trace the physical location of the proxy server. Type the IP address from step 3 into the "Track IP, host or website" box or the "Lookup IP address" box, depending on which lookup tool you use. Press “Enter.” The results will show you the city, state and country where the proxy server is located. If the server is in a different state than you are in, move to the next section of this article to configure the proxy setting for your particular Web browser. Otherwise, go back to the free proxy website and select another U.S. proxy.
