How to Restore Bookmarks From a JSON File

Save

The Mozilla Firefox web browser lets you permanently store links to your favorite websites as bookmarks. This functionality allows you to access frequently visited pages with just a single click, instead of searching for a particular page or manually entering its address. Starting with version 3, Firefox lets you export your saved bookmarks to a JSON file. If you delete or otherwise lose access to the bookmarks stored in the browser, Firefox allows you to restore them from a JSON backup.

  • Open a Firefox browser window.

  • Click "Bookmarks" in the top menu bar and select "Organize Bookmarks." The Library window opens within a few seconds.

  • Click the "Import and Backup" button near the top of the Library window, select "Restore" and then click "Choose File."

  • Locate the JSON file in the resulting window and select it by double-clicking its icon. Also click "OK" if prompted to confirm your choice.

  • Click the "X" in the top-right corner of the Library window to close the window and return to browsing.
