A bulging stomach area is a source of frustration for many women who long to be polished and fashionable, but have difficulty finding clothing that won't draw attention to their tummy. Fortunately, creating the appearance of a slimmer profile is as simple as finding the right undergarments to flatten your middle, and choosing clothing that will highlight your best attributes.

Get professionally fitted for a new bra. According to an article in Shape magazine, it's estimated that around 80 percent of women wear the wrong bra size. A bra that fits properly can raise your bust and give you a trimmer profile.

Trade your tight panties for comfortable boy shorts. The thick waistband provides more coverage and minimizes any bumps or bulges in your middle.

Wear control-top pantyhose or figure-slimming stockings under your clothes. Some brands can bunch up uncomfortably when you sit, so try a few brands before you settle on one to wear regularly.

Choose slightly loose shirts and blazers that hit at the hip to disguise any remaining tummy bulge.

Wear pants made of fabrics that fall straight instead of clinging to your legs. Creating a straight line down from your middle will minimize the appearance of a protruding stomach when you stand in profile.

Choose tops with darting near the bust or an empire waist to draw attention to your face and upper body.

Wear darker pieces on the areas of your body that you want to de-emphasize. If you dislike how your stomach looks but are pleased with your bust, try wearing empire waist tops with a brighter color above the waistline and a darker or more neutral color below.
