Playlists on the Apple iPhone's Music app are a convenient way to organize your music library. You can add, delete and edit the songs and videos in any playlist. Unlike iTunes on a computer, once you name a playlist on an iPhone, you can't just tap it to change its name. However, you can rename a playlist by copying it with a new name and then deleting the old one. The process only takes a few seconds for most playlists, even if you have several dozen songs. If your playlist has hundreds of songs, it may take more time, as you have to manually add each song. The same method for renaming a playlist also works on the iPad and iPod Touch.

Step 1

Launch the Music app on your iPhone and tap the "Playlists" button in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

Step 2

Select "Add Playlist." Type the new name for your playlist in the text field that opens and tap "Save." The Music app displays all of your songs.

Step 3

Tap the "Playlists" button. Select your old playlist to see the songs it contains.

Step 4

Tap the "+" button beside every song in the list. As you add a song, its title is grayed out. Tap "Done." The songs in the new playlist are displayed.

Step 5

Tap the "Playlists" button. Select your old list by tapping it. Tap the "Delete" button and then tap the red "Delete Playlist" button to confirm your decision. The old playlist is deleted from your iPhone.
