How to Plan a Trip Using the Garmin GPS

Save

Garmin's GPS navigation systems allow you and your friends to plan a stress-free road trip across a state or even to the other side of the country. Using a Garmin GPS to plan a trip helps you focus on the road, your friends and sightseeing, rather than constantly having to refer to a map or fumbling with printed directions. It also can make your trip safer because the GPS can be mounted to your windshield, allowing you to see it without taking your hands off the steering wheel.

  • Write down the addresses for all destinations on your trip.

  • Press the power key of the GPS. At the main screen, touch "Where To."

  • Touch "Address." Enter the address of your final destination. You must enter a state, city and street address. Touch "Go" to begin navigating.

  • Wait for the GPS to locate satellites and provide the first direction to your destination.

  • To enter additional stops on the way to your destination, return to the main menu and touch "Where To."

  • Touch "Address." Add the state, city and street address for the stop.

  • Touch "Go." Touch the "Add as Via Point" option so that your original route is not interrupted.
