The F150 Headlights Won't Turn Off

by Matt Scheer

If the headlights on your Ford F150 truck are not turning off, the headlight switch is the main culprit. The headlight switch allows you to turn on and off your low and high beam headlights from inside the F150 cabin. Fortunately, replacing the headlight switch is a simple and straightforward procedure that shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes to complete. No special tools are needed and no extraneous parts need to be removed to access the headlight switch.

Step 1

Turn off your Ford F150 and prop open the hood.

Step 2

Disconnect the negative battery cable with an adjustable wrench.

Step 3

Sit in the driver's side seat of your Ford F150 and remove the two screws below the steering column with a Phillips head screwdriver to dismantle the two halves of the steering column bezel.

Step 4

Remove the three screws mounting the headlight switch to the steering column bracket.

Step 5

Unplug the wiring block from the rear of the headlight switch. Verify that the leads on the wiring block are clean. Continue the replacement procedure if they are. If not, clean them and test your headlights. Continue to the next step if they do not turn on.

Step 6

Pull the headlight switch off of the steering column bracket and insert the replacement switch. Plug back in the wiring block, remount with the three screws and re-cover the steering column with the bezel.
