How to Repair an MPEG Video

MPEG, also known as Moving Pictures Expert Group, is a common video format that is distributed, shared and transferred on the Internet. Users typically share MPEG videos by uploading or downloading the videos from a peer-to-peer website or a video-sharing website. Your MPEG videos can become damaged or corrupt in various ways, such as the video does not open or the MPEG has audio and video synchronization issues. You can repair an MPEG video by downloading various software programs that correct the errors.

Instructions

  1. MPEG Header Corrector

      Download, install and launch MPEG Header Corrector (see Resources section).

      Press "File," then "Open MPEG" to browse your hard drive for the corrupted MPEG video, then click "Open."

      Type in a name for the MPEG video; select a destination folder and click "Save." The repaired MPEG video will be stored in the destination folder.

      Press "Fix It!" to repair the MPEG video.

      Press "OK" once the "Process Complete" message box appears on screen.

    VCDGear

      Download, install and launch VCDGear (see Resources section).

      Press "Extraction/Conversion," scroll down and select "MPEG > MPEG."

      Press "Load" to browse your computer for the corrupted MPEG video.

      Press "Save" when the pop-up window appears to save the repaired MPEG video.

      Check the "Fix MPEG Errors" box below the "Extract/Conversion" field.
