How to Locate & Replace a 2006 Titan Thermostat

by Zyon Silket

If you need to locate and replace the thermostat in your 2006 Titan, you have likely noticed the temperature gauge acting erratically or the engine overheated while you were driving. Both situations can cause premature engine failure if you do not change the thermostat. Locating the thermostat is relatively easy. The process for replacing the thermostat is not difficult either. The placement of the thermostat makes it an easy reach --- you only need basic tools to complete the task.

Step 1

Locate the thermostat on the 2006 Nissan Titan by following the upper radiator hose to the location where the hose connects to the engine. The hose connects to the thermostat housing.

Step 2

Remove the hose by prying the hose clamp loose with a pair of pliers and then by pulling the hose off the thermostat housing. Hold the hose vertical to drain the fluid in the hose back into the radiator. Wipe any spillage off the engine surface with a towel.

Step 3

Remove the two bolts that secure the thermostat housing to the 2006 Titan's engine with a socket and ratchet and then lift the housing off the engine.

Step 4

Pull the old thermostat out of the engine and push a towel into the hole.

Step 5

Scrape the old gasket material off the engine with a small scraper. Do the same with the bottom of the thermostat housing.

Step 6

Remove the towel from the engine and place the new thermostat into the engine. The end of the thermostat with the large spring rests inside the engine. Place the new thermostat gasket over the thermostat.

Step 7

Bolt the thermostat housing back into place.

Step 8

Slide the radiator hose back onto the Nissan's thermostat housing and secure it with the band clamp.
