Originally founded in 1918, Frigidaire has been manufacturing home appliances for years. If you own a Frigidaire dryer, learning how to perform your own repairs can save money. To perform most repairs on the dryer you must open the cabinet and disassemble the dryer. Opening the dryer involves raising the top panel and removing the front panel and drum.

Step 1

Unplug your Frigidaire dryer from the electrical outlet.

Step 2

Slide a putty knife between the top panel and front panel, on the left side. Slide the knife toward the center of the dryer to release the left-side spring clip. Repeat the process on the right side. Lift the top panel up and rotate it toward the back of the dryer.

Step 3

Remove the screws along the inside edges of the front panel. Depending on your Frigidaire dryer, there will either be two or four screws. Tilt the top of the front panel toward you and lift it up to release the lower spring clips. Unplug the door switch wiring harness and slide the front panel off to the side.

Step 4

Move around to the back of the dryer and remove the screws holding the lower access panel in place. The access panel is located in the lower left corner of the dryer. Remove the panel and reach inside. Press in on the idler arm, located next to the motor to release the drum belt's tension. Unhook the drum belt from the motor pulley and return to the front of the dryer.

Step 5

Use the drum belt to help lift up the back side of the drum. The drum has a ball on the back end that rests in a socket on the dryer's back wall. Lift the back side of the drum up about 3 inches to lift the ball out of the socket and slide the drum forward and out of the cabinet.
