How to Make Espresso in a Bialetti

Espresso is a method of brewing coffee. The method involves a high concentration of finely ground coffee beans, and pressurized water passing through the grinds. Due to the high concentration of coffee, espresso is served in significantly smaller doses than other forms of coffee. Bialetti is a manufacturer of at-home brewing equipment, including a Moka Pot, which allows for creating espresso drinks on your stove top at home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Grind the coffee beans, if you do not have espresso coffee grinds. You need the coffee to be slightly finer than that used for drip-brewing coffee machines. Many grinders have presets that make it easier.

    • 2

Unscrew the Bialetti Moka Pot at the center. Remove the coffee filter. Fill the bottom half of the pot with water. Do not let the water level rise higher than the pressure release valve.

    • 3

Fill the coffee filter with your espresso coffee grinds. Pack the coffee tight, flat to the rim. The amount of coffee used will determine the strength of your brew, more coffee will result in a stronger, darker espresso. Replace the coffee-filled filter in the bottom half of the Bialetti pot.

    • 4

Screw the top half of the pot back on. Take care not to spill water or coffee out of the bottom half.

    • 5

Place the Bialetti Moka Pot on your stove top, setting the burner to a low-to-medium heat. Allow the pot to sit for roughly 5 minutes. The heat causes the water in the bottom chamber to rise, through the coffee filter and into the top chamber. You will hear this happening. Turn the stove off when the last of the liquid passes into the top chamber. Carefully (the pot will be hot) pour the espresso into coffee cups.
