How to Disable OnStar in a 2001 Tahoe

The 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe's OnStar system is designed as a safety feature. OnStar, which is a subscription-based service, is alerted when your car is in an accident. It also allows you to call emergency services when necessary, obtain navigation information and use remote unlocking services. If you choose not to use the system, you can disconnect the wiring harness to completely disable the OnStar device.

Instructions

    • 1

Sit in the passenger seat of your Tahoe. Open the glove compartment.

    • 2

Grab the rubber tab on the inside of the glove compartment. The tab is in the center of the left side of the glove box. Pull the tab toward the center to release the glove box from the dash.

    • 3

Lower the glove box as far as it will drop. Reach into the mounting area, toward the center of the truck. Locate the blue wiring harness connector inside the compartment.

    • 4

Press the retaining tab on the side of the connector and pull it apart. Align the glove compartment in the mounting area. Push the glove compartment into place until it clicks and then close it.
