How to Disable an Internet Proxy

A proxy server takes frequently downloaded data on a network and stores it on a central computer. This allows you to access the data from the central computer instead of getting it long-distance. Unfortunately, a proxy server also has the potential to slow down Internet connections, leaving you wanting to disable it. Doing so requires you to access the Internet options and disabling the proxy server from the browser settings.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start" and select the "Control Panel" option.

    • 2

Select the "Network and Internet" option.

    • 3

Choose "Internet Options" and select the "Connections" tab.

    • 4

Click the "LAN Settings" option and uncheck all the boxes. Click "OK."

Tips & Warnings

  • You can turn the proxy server back on by checking all the boxes under LAN Settings again.
