How to Go to Airplane Mode in the iPad
When using the 3G iPad you may need to set the device to airplane mode when traveling, which disables the data network. Although you won't be able to access the Internet or any applications that use data, the iPad can still be used with applications that don't require a data connection. Most airlines require you to turn off electronic devices that interfere with the plane's communication during the take-off and landing procedures, and in airplane mode the iPad can be turned on once the pilot announces electronic devices can be used.
