How Can I Get Grant Money for a Minority?
Minorities come in all shapes and sizes, and grants are available for just about any category of them. Minorities include the physically disabled, women, veterans, even left-handed people, and a host of other categories of individuals. So do not count yourself as someone who does not qualify for minority grants. If you are unique in any way, there is likely a grant available to you.

1
Write a list of national, regional and local associations dedicated to your minority group. Some include the National Association of Left Handed People and the National Veterans Association of America, for example. Include professional and business associations related to your line of work made up of members of your minority group.

2
Write a list of government agencies dedicated to your minority group. For instance, if you are of Native American ancestry, include the Bureau of Indian Affairs or the tribal government of your tribe in your list. Visit the Grants.gov website to learn about federal government grants available to minorities. Grants on this site are available for a variety of purposes. Search for grants available to minorities by entering "minority" as a key word in your search.

3
Write a list of businesses that offer grants to minorities (see References). For example, if you are a woman who wants to study aeronautical engineering, contact a company who offers grants to women who want to pursue engineering degrees. The Hyatt Hotels Fund for Minority Lodging Management Students is an example of a corporate fund that is open to minority students wanting to pursue a degree in hospitality management (see References).

4
Contact each organization, business and government office on your list by visiting its website or by calling to see if it offers grants. If it does not, ask the representative you talk to if it could refer you to organizations that do offer grants for your minority group. Ask for an application and application instructions if you are eligible for any of the grants.

Tips & Warnings
If you want an educational grant for college, fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Although the grants are not specifically geared toward minorities, they are often awarded to them. (See References 1 and 2.)
Follow all of the grant instructions closely. Have someone proofread your application for you after you go over it once yourself.
